1. What I’ve Learned So Far

I have learned to read English poetry. I have learned many poetic techniques that we can keep in mind while reading poetries. Some things like syntax, rhetorical techniques were not only about poetry, so I think my overall English level went up by taking this class. Also I learned a lot about interacting with other students through discussion and evaluation, and that was very helpful.

1. 우리가 지금까지 배운 것들

             지금까지는 영미시를 읽는 법을 배웠다. 많은 시적 테크닉들을 함께 배워서 이제는 같은 시를 읽어도 예전보다 더 많은 것들을 분석 해 낼 수 있게 되었다. 그리고 구문법이나 수사법에 관한 내용은 시에만 국한 되는 것이 아니라 문학이라는 영역에서 전반적으로 사용되는 지식이므로, 이 수업을 들으면서 나의 전반적인 영어실력이 늘었다고 생각해도 될 것 같다. 마지막으로 나는 다른 학생들과의 교류와 서로평가를 통해 무언가를 배워 가는 것에 대해 배웠다.

2. My Areas of Strength As an AP Lit Student

             I don’t think I have any strength as an AP lit student honestly. However, I think my analyzing skill is okay if I’m not analyzing in English. And I actually really enjoy the class even though I’m not at all good at English; I thought that could be a strength of mine maybe.

2. AP문학 학생으로서의 나의 강점

             사실 나는 나에겐 이 수업을 들을 때 필요한 어떠한 강점도 없다고 생각한다. 하지만 나의 작품분석 능력은, 만약 내가 영어로 분석해야 하는 게 아니라면 그다지 나쁘지 않다고 생각한다. 그리고 나는 이 수업을 잘하지는 못해도 무척이나 즐기면서 듣고 있는데, 그것도 언젠가는 강점으로 작용하리라고 생각한다.

3. My Areas of Weakness As an AP Lit Student

             ENGLISH is my weakness and most of other weaknesses come from this one fundamental weakness. However, logical thinking, discussion, reading rate (only English), and writing (only English) are the specific weaknesses that I am suffering from the most for right now. My essays are lack of organization for the most of the times, and the thesis is usually ambiguous. In class discussions, I am hardly involved in because it’s really hard to me to just follow the discussion. I read and write only at a half a speed of most of the other AP lit students.

3. AP문학 학생으로서의 나의 약점

             영어가 나의 가장 큰 약점이고 거의 모든 다른 약점들은 모두 이 한가지 큰 약점으로부터 비롯된다. 좀 더 자세하게 나열하자면, 논리적인 사고, 토론능력, 읽기속도, 쓰기가 모두 나의 약점들이다. 나의 글들은 요점이 불분명하고 구조가 뚜렷하지 못하다. 토론에서는 참여를 못하기 일쑤고 토론을 따라가는 것 만으로도 버거워한다. 읽기와 쓰기 속도는 다른 학생들의 반정도 밖에 되지 않는다.

4. What I’m Thinking About Reading and Writing in College

I’m really really really nervous about reading and writing college. Most colleges require strong emphasis on writing in your high school curriculum and that means that writing is going to be one of the most essential skills people need in colleges. However, I still struggle a lot to write things in English, and really I’m worried. However, I’m also excited for new opportunities; I believe I would be able to improve even more rapidly in college.

4. 대학 진학후의 읽기와 쓰기에 대한 내 생각

             나는 사실 매우 매우 매우 걱정이 된다. 많은 대학교들이 고등학교 때에 글쓰기에 많은 시간을 투자하길 바란다. 그건 다른 말로는 대학에서 글쓰기가 매우 중요한 능력이 될 거라는 것이다. 하지만 나는 여전히 영어로 글을 쓰는 데에 어려움이 많고, 정말 걱정이 많이 된다. 하지만 나는 새로운 기회에 대한 기대감도 역시 떨쳐버릴 수 없다. 그리고 대학에 가면 또 다른 발전을 할 수 있을 거라고 생각한다.

5. My Goals for the Upcoming Marking Period

First of all, I want to be more comfortable with peer evaluation and discussion. To achieve that, I believe I would need more confidence in myself, and in order to have confidence I know that I have to study harder and be satisfied with myself. And then I want to be comfortable with close reading, and I would practice more to achieve that. The next thing is that I want to write an essay that is well organized more quickly, and I think that requires a lot of practice also. Lastly, I would memorize more vocabulary and literary terms during next marking period.

5. 학기말까지 나의 목표

             우선은 나는 토론와 서로평가에 더욱 익숙해 지고 싶다. 그렇게 되려면 우선 자신감이 좀 더 있어야 할 것 같은데, 자신감을 북돋기 위해서는 더 열심히 해서 내 자신에게 만족할 수 있어야 할 것 같다. 그 다음엔 작품 분석을 더욱 익숙하게 하고 싶은데, 더 많은 연습이 필요할 것 같다. 그 다음에는 정돈된 에세이를 더욱 짧은 시간 안에 써내는 연습이 필요할 것 같아. 마지막으로, 더욱 많은 단어와 문학용어들을 외워야 할 것 같다.
